The application of MBR membrane in municipal wastewater treatment.

In 1967, the first wastewater treatment plant using the MBR process was built by Dorr-Oliver of the United States, which treated 14m 3 /d wastewater.

In 1977, a sewage recycling system was used in a high-rise building in Japan.

In 1980, Japan built the MBR processing plant with two processing capacities of 10m 3 /d and 50m 3 /d respectively.

In the early 1990s, there were 39 such plants operating in Japan, with the maximum processing capacity of 500m, 3 /d, and more than 100 high-rises using MBR to treat the wastewater back to the middle channel.


In 1997, Wessex, a British company, established the largest MBR system in the world at that time, with a daily processing capacity of 2, 000m 3, and in 1999, it completed the MBR factory of 13, 000m 3 /d in the Swanage of Dorset [14].

In May 1998, the test system of one-piece membrane bioreactor in tsinghua university passed the national identification.

In early 2000, tsinghua university in Beijing haidian township hospital built a set of practical MBR system, for the treatment of hospital wastewater, the project was completed and put into use in June 2000, is operating normally.

In September 2000, tianjin university professor Yang Zao yan and his leadership team in tianjin new technology industrial park PuChen building built a demonstrative project of MBR, the sewage system, 25 tons, all treated sewage used for toilet flushing and green land, labor, area of 10 square meters, with the energy consumption of per ton wastewater is 0.7 kW · h.
